New Religion Dispatches Essay

For those interested, I have a new feature in today's Religion Dispatches. In the essay, I use the Soulforce Equality Ride and the recent legislative attempts in Oklahoma to block the force of the Matthew Shepard Act as a springboard to reflect on why some conservatives are so resistant to having gay bashing classified as a hate crime.

  1. I just wanted to add to your post that we (the Equality Riders)not only spoke/speak up for gay and lesbians, we speak up for bisexuals, pansexuals, queers, gender benders, trans people and all people who identify as something other then straight. You often mention brothers and sisters in Christ or at least brothers and sisters, I would ask that remembering not everyone identifies as man or woman, could you use the phrase siblings in Christ? You wrote a nice article, I just wanted to clarify.
    Peace and love,
    Kimmy, a 2010 Equality Rider
